Discover how to craft a unique brand voice for your AI, enhancing user engagement and building trust with consistent, personalized communication.
Wait, what is a brand voice?
A brand voice is the unique personality and tone that a you/your company/your org adopts in all its communications. It reflects the brand's values, culture, and ethos, and it helps to create a consistent and recognizable identity across various platforms and interactions.
A well-defined brand voice can:
Build Recognition: Consistent use of a distinct voice helps customers recognize your brand easily.
Establish Trust: A clear and authentic voice can foster trust and loyalty among your customers or users.
Differentiate from Competitors: A unique voice sets the brand apart from others in the market.
Connect with the Audience: An effective brand voice resonates with the target audience, making the brand more relatable and engaging.
Brand voices up until recently were most frequently used in companies with a good comms & marketing strategy for all of the above reasons.
Now, with the rise of AI and people using AI to help them with their own content, the usage of brand voices for personal reasons are becoming a lot more prevalent.
What is the benefit of a personal brand voice?
When you ask chatGPT (or any of your other AI tools) to create snippets or blocks of text, you will most likely need to edit it to suit your purpose. The first prompt result you get, is unlikely to be in a format that you are comfortable with.
What if that first prompt could sound like you? What if it could be in your preferred tone of voice?
If you do this, then that first prompt then gets made a whole lot easier to edit into something you are happy with, saving you a bunch of time.
So, how can I create my own brand voice?
If you, like me have a lot of (pre AI) content that you wrote yourself, you can just feed that into your preferred AI tool and ask it to create a brand voice on your own content.
This is probably the best way, as it takes out your own bias when answering multiple choice questions about your content or your own personal brand.
But, if you don’t have the luxury of a bunch of content to feed off, then you can use my steps below. These instructions are for ChatGPT, I haven’t used other tooling, but I know that many of them allow you to change how you’d like your AI to respond, so that’s where you might add these settings.

If you don’t have the above, simply use the latest version of whatever AI tool you have access to, and input this into a prompt:
I want to create my own personal brand voice. Can you ask me these ten multiple choice questions one prompt after another?
Please wait for my responses on each question before moving on to the next. If you feel that you need to change the content to better distinguish my brand voice as I answer each question, feel free to do so.
Once all ten questions are answered, please propose 3 different brand voices based on my answers, for me to choose my favourite.
I might also choose more than one multiple choice, or add a different suggestion, so please cater for that and change the content of the following questions if you wish.

B. Professional and insightful

When you finish the survey, please give the 3 options in 2 formats, as a list of brand voice elements, and as blocks of text explaining the brand voice instead of a broken down list

Some of my responses varied, and I encourage this - there is no right answer for any of these questions, so you should reflect this in your responses.

Now, input your Brand Voice into the custom instructions.
Hit the icon in the top right and click on Customize ChatGPT
Copy the output from your chosen brand voice into the “How would you like ChatGPT to respond” along with a the following:
My brand voice is the following:
… brand voice output …
Where possible, you should respond in that brand voice unless you need to remain in the context of what you are posting
Click save and try it out! Ask chatgpt for something and see if the response is more suitable and easier to read.
