Using Starred Linkedin Conversations for Your Next Career Move | John’s Tips 2024W9
Transform LinkedIn chats from recruiters into job leads with the conversation star feature
Navigating job transitions can be a challenge, but as I often remind myself (especially at this moment), every change is a chance to explore something new. Being in the job market can be daunting, with the uncertainty of where the next opportunity will come from if the current lead doesn’t pan out.
Viewing job transitions as opportunities rather than setbacks can shift your perspective. I approach this with a product manager’s mindset, treating it as a feature I’m working to launch. The question then becomes: How can I make this process smoother throughout the year, so it’s less overwhelming when the time comes?
Maintaining an up-to-date LinkedIn profile is one strategy I swear by, even when I’m not actively seeking a new role. It’s all about minimizing stress during job transitions. Anything you can do to minimize stress during the recruitment process is key.
Another useful tactic involves those numerous messages from recruiters we all often receive. While some may not be relevant in the moment, others could become valuable leads if you end up out of work in 3 months time.
So, what’s my tip?
Use the star (favorite) icon in LinkedIn conversations to bookmark these interactions.
This simple action keeps potential opportunities at your fingertips, ready for when you’re back on the job hunt. It transforms these messages into leads, easing the initial hurdle of securing interviews.
While personal referrals remain the gold standard, often providing a direct path to interviews, they aren’t always an option. In such cases, your starred conversations on LinkedIn can serve as an effective alternative, ensuring you’re never short on leads when seeking your next role.
